BC Virtual Visit

BC Virtual Visit is a secure video solution. It allows for visits with Island Health or affiliated health care providers from the comfort of home. You can use a personal smartphone, tablet or computer. Talk to your care team to find out if they offer virtual care services. Ask if a virtual visit will meet your care needs.

BC Virtual Visits must be arranged through your health care provider or Island Health care team. The materials and resources available on this webpage are to support patients whom already have a BC Virtual Visit scheduled.

Are you in need of care and do not have a primary care provider? Try these resources:
  • Visit HealthLinkBC or call 8-1-1 for advice from a health service navigator. For the deaf or hard of hearing, call 7-1-1.
  • Visit PathwaysMedicalCare.ca to find information about your family doctor. You can also search for clinics in your area.
  • Search Medimap.ca to view wait times for local walk-in clinics and urgent primary care clinics.

Preparing for Your Visit

Prior to your visit, you will need:

  • A personal email address you feel comfortable using to receive visit details.
  • A personal computer, tablet, or mobile phone with a camera, microphone, and speaker. This will let you see, talk to, and hear your health care provider. Make sure you have access to a power source.
  • A secure Internet or Wi-Fi connection (we recommend home Wi-Fi or internet connection). Be aware of your data plan to avoid unexpected charges.
  • A private space to attend the visit.

Downloading and Installing the BC Virtual Visit App

Your virtual visit may require you to download our virtual care application. Before your visit, make sure you have the latest version of the patient application for your chosen device. See Downloading the BC Virtual Visit App.

Attending Your Visit

Once you have prepared for your visit and downloaded the required application, you are ready to attend your virtual visit. Join a few minutes early to test your audio and video, and to seek technical assistance if needed.

Privacy and Security

To support the privacy and security of your visit, use a home WiFi or wired network. Avoid using public WiFi connections (e.g. guest WiFi at a coffee shop).

If you must use public Wi-Fi, review the terms of use when connecting. They may say they can capture or record your information.
