VANCOUVER ISLAND – Influenza season is here and it can be serious. It's hit your household, bringing family members a nasty cough, aches and pains and fever. Influenza, the “flu,” can be a serious respiratory disease that contributes to the death of approximately 3,500 people a year in Canada.
ISLAND WIDE – As we welcome 2018, confirmed outbreaks of Influenza A are appearing in long-term care facilities in the Nanaimo-Parksville area. Also, there are sporadic laboratory reports of people in communities throughout Vancouver Island with confirmed cases of the flu.
VANCOUVER ISLAND – Fentanyl test strips are now available at Island Health’s supervised consumption and overdose prevention sites, allowing people to test drugs before they are consumed. Sites in Victoria, the city with the third-highest number of overdose deaths in B.C.
