A new report from the BC Coroners Service shows that 18 people died last year by accidental drowning in the Island Health region – three more people than the ten year average of 15.
A Victoria-based Youth Action Team that promoted harm reduction education and training at Belmont Secondary School has been recognized by Island Health for its innovation and dedication.
Due to limited staffing availability and to ensure Saanich Peninsula residents have access to the health-care services they need during daytime and early evening hours when the Saanich Peninsula Hospital emergency department is busiest, Island Health is implementing a temporary overnight closure of the emergency department.

Due to limited staffing availability, Saanich Peninsula Hospital emergency department will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24. The emergency department will remain open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
As the closure of Highway 4 carries on into a third week, Island Health continues to implement contingency plans to minimize impacts to patients and clients and ensure emergency services are there for those that need them.
