Island health has acquired a number of accommodations to assist those working temporarily or permanently in the Mount Waddington area. These accommodations are used by Island Health RNs and LPNs that travel to Mt. Waddington to pick up casual work. For new hires to the area that have accepted a temporary or permanent position, these accommodations may be provided on a temporary basis (dependent on availability) while looking for permanent housing.
Currently, Island Health offers accommodations in Alert Bay and Port McNeill with the aim to add more.
Alert Bay Accommodations
There are currently seven Island Health accommodations (with more to come) located within the quaint village Alert Bay to support Cormorant Island Community Health Centre (CICHC).
CICHC Onsite Accommodations
These Island Health owned, shared accommodation is conveniently located on site at Cormorant Island Community Health Centre. This location is ideal for nurses who are flying in without access to a vehicle. These are shared accommodations with three bedrooms and a modern open-concept kitchen and living room.

Blue House
The Blue House is a three bedroom character home situated on a grassy corner lot with ocean views on Gatu Road. It is a three minute drive or eighteen minute walk to CICHC, and a three minute drive or sixteen minute walk from the Alert Bay Ferry Terminal.

Holly House
Holly House is a two bedroom character home with ocean views located on Alder Road. This shared accommodation boasts an updated kitchen and open-concept living room. It is a five minute drive or twenty-five minute walk to CICHC, and a three minute drive or nine minute walk from the Alert Bay Ferry Terminal.

Fir Street House
The Fir Street house is a one bedroom lower suite directly across from the beach and ocean. This cozy suite has an open concept kitchen and living room and unique yard with eclectic decorations. It is a seven minute drive or forty minute walk to CICHC, and a four minute drive or twenty-three minute walk from the Alert Bay Ferry Terminal.

About Cormorant Island Community Health Centre (CICHC)
Cormorant Island Community Health Centre (CICHC) has four inpatient beds and an Emergency Department with two stretchers, one cast/gyne room, one trauma bay, and one COVID triage room to service approximately 1,200 island residents.
About Alert Bay
The Village of Alert Bay is located on the traditional Kwakwaka'wakw territory. The 'Namgis First Nation has the largest population on the island, with 700 residents. The Village of Alert Bay has a population of 500-600 residents, and the remainder of the island's population is the Whe-la-la-u Area Council, which represents four of Kwakwaka'wakw Tribes (approximately 250 people) and the Regional District of Mount Waddington (35 people.)

There are eight Island Health accommodations located within Port McNeill to support Port McNeill Hospital (PMH).
Quatsino House
The Quatsino House, a two bedroom half-duplex shared accommodation with stunning ocean views, is located at the quiet corner of Quatsino Crescent and Pine Street in Port McNeill. It is a three minute drive or a fourteen minute walk to PMH.

Located 195 kilometers north of Campbell River, Port McNeill Hospital (PMH) has 10 inpatient beds, an Emergency Department with four stretchers and a trauma room to service approximately 3000 Vancouver Island citizens.

Port McNeill is the second-largest community on the North Island and falls within the traditional territories of the Kwakwaka'wakw peoples. The area is a regional centre for ecotourism including wildlife viewing, whale watching, grizzly bear safaris, diving, sea kayaking and fresh and saltwater fishing included. Island Health currently offers nine newly renovated apartments in Port Hardy as well as three townhouses and one house to support Port Hardy Hospital (PHH).

Port Hardy Hospital (PHH) is located in the northernmost District on Vancouver Island. It has twelve inpatient beds, an Emergency Department with four stretchers and a trauma room, and it is the low-risk obstetrics site on the North Island.

Port Hardy is the largest community in the Regional District of Mount Waddington. Built along the shores of a natural deep water harbour the area is rich in beauty and natural resources.
Port Hardy is falls within the traditional territory of the Kwakiutl First Nations on the northern-most tip of Vancouver Island. In addition to being the home of the Kwakiutl, the District is also home to two neighbouring First Nations bands — the Quatsino and Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw.
