At Island Health, we believe the most meaningful innovations in healthcare begin with the people who live it every day—nurses, physicians, caregivers, patients, and those working behind the scenes. Our Innovation team creates space for early-stage ideas to grow through hands-on collaboration. We listen, enable, and work together to shape, test, and improve solutions that truly matter.
Our team brings deep expertise in design, technology, and facilitation, applying a wide range of skills—from industrial design and 3D modeling to service design and digital systems—to move projects forward. When an idea meets the criteria for innovation, we guide teams through iterative development, helping refine concepts, test assumptions, and build solutions ready for real-world impact. This could mean creating a physical prototype, visualizing a new service, or exploring a concept in virtual reality.
Projects that benefit from hands-on development and creative exploration often utilize the rapid development tools in our Innovation Lab—a dedicated space equipped with advanced tools, prototyping materials, and skilled designers. Our maker space includes a growing collection of high-tech equipment and materials, such as:
- 3D scanners and printers for rapid prototyping
- Soldering stations for electronics and hardware development
- Virtual reality headsets for immersive simulation
- A variety of prototyping materials for creative exploration
