Island Health in conjunction with the Ministry of Health administer the Home Oxygen Program to the residents of this region.
What is the Home Oxygen Program (HOP)?
The Home Oxygen Program is a funding program for patients in our community who require supplemental oxygen in their homes. Oxygen equipment is provided to patients by an Island Health approved oxygen supplier. In order to receive coverage for home oxygen, patients must meet the Home Oxygen Program Criteria.
This program provides oxygen therapy at home for eligible clients with:
- asthma
- emphysema
- chronic bronchitis
- occupational lung disease
- lung cancer
- cystic fibrosis
- congestive heart failure
Respiratory Therapists will provide periodic assessments and oxygen titration. Requests for home oxygen service are made by a physician on behalf of the client.
How do I apply for the Home Oxygen Program?
To apply for a Home Oxygen Program subsidy, a copy of our application will need to be completed and signed by a physician or a nurse practitioner. The signed application will then be faxed directly to an approved Home Oxygen Program oxygen supplier.
