Therapy & Intervention

Therapy and Intervention Island Health

Child Youth Family Health-Rehabilitation Services (CYFH-RS) can act as a partner in planning support for your child.

Your child's assessments help determine the therapies and interventions that your child may receive, depending on the age of your child.

CYFH-RS professionals are guided by your goals to build on your child's strengths and to provide a wide variety of interventions to optimize his or her development at home, in school and the community.

Children from birth to 5 years may receive treatment from an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist or other members of four treatment teams in Greater Victoria with the Early Intervention Program.

Besides in your home or at a number of different Island Health sites, your child’s, therapies and interventions may take place in collaboration with child care providers or other community partners.

Children and youth of school age may work with an occupational therapist or physiotherapist from the School Age Therapy Program. They collaborate with the school- based team and family to support the student's optimal participation in the school environment, home and/or community.

As a follow-up to an assessment, children also may be referred to CYFH-RS multidisciplinary clinics where a team of professionals may make specific recommendations related to a particular condition.

If you are concerned about your child's development, contact your family doctor, pediatrician, child care provider, classroom teacher or an intake worker at Queen Alexandra Centre for Children's Health.

CYFH-RS Clinics provide assessments and intervention for children and youth. These include Cleft Lip and Palate, Neuromuscular, Spinal, Visual Impairment and Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing clinics.
