We provide a selection of programs to enhance individual well-being and active community participation.

Adult Day Services*

We offer a variety of adult day services, including:

• Recreational Activities (i.e., singing, gardening, and crafts)
• Therapeutic Activities (i.e., cognitive games and chair exercise)
• Health monitoring
• Healthy meals
• Bathing programs (available at some sites)
• Social interaction

Assisted Living*

Assisted Living supports your independence and helps you continue to live in the community. Subsidized Assisted Living is provided in partnership with private for-profit and non-profit operators. 

Assisted Living is for individuals who can live independently but require support with some personal assistance and daily living tasks. This service can include:
•    Accommodation
•    Hospitality services (meals, housekeeping, recreation supports, emergency response)
•    Personal care and/or medication management assistance

Community Bathing Programs*

Community bathing programs benefit those who find it hard to bathe safely in their own home, even with support. 

You can bathe in special bathtubs, with help from trained staff, at facilities across the Island Health region.

Health Services for Community Living

Health Services for Community Living provides professional consultation, care planning, education, advocacy, and direct care to adults with developmental disabilities. This non-emergency service enhances existing formal and informal community services, including:
•    Nursing
•    Rehabilitation
•    Nutrition
•    Dental Hygiene

Service delivery is carried out in partnership with Community Living BC. Community Living BC provides support and services through funds from the BC Ministry of Housing and Social Development to adults living with developmental disabilities and their families.

Wellness Monitoring Program (South Island Only)

The Wellness Monitoring Program is a service that provides support and guidance as you age or experience health concerns.

As a client of this program, you will partner with a Wellness Mentor to manage your health. Your Wellness Mentor will guide you in managing your own care needs and connect you with resources to enhance your quality of life. Wellness Mentors also help people to be accountable as they work towards their  goals.

Wellness Mentors are Occupational Therapists or Recreation Therapists who use a holistic approach to improve your health which may include physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

Eligibility and Accessing Services

Contact your Case Manager about accessing these services. If you do not have a Case Manager, call our Community Access Line and they will help you.

The BC Ministry of Health sets the eligibility requirements for our services and programs. Services and programs with costs attached have program-specific eligibility requirements.

Costs

Adult Day Services*

A daily rate, up to a maximum of $10, covers meals, transportation and supplies such as crafts. Costs may be waived if serious financial hardship means you cannot access the services. Visit the Ministry of Health Adult Day Program website for more information about costs.

Assisted Living*

The cost of assisted living is calculated at 70% of your net income. Each subsidized site has additional costs for utilities. You can ask about these costs at each Assisted Living site you are considering.

Community Bathing* 

Bathing program costs vary dependent on the facility you use. To find out current rates, please call the Community Access Line for more information.

English as a Foreign Language

Patients coming to an Island Health location can get interpreting services on-demand in the language they need during their appointment or visit.

The service is also available to patients attending virtual care appointments.
