President and Chief Executive Officer
Kathy MacNeil is driven by her passion to improve the health and care of all residents and communities in the Island Health region. Strongly grounded in Island Health’s vision for the future, and in alignment with the Ministry of Health’s plans, Kathy focuses on accountability and fosters a culture of quality, safety and patient-centered care.
As a relational leader, she works to create an environment where staff, medical staff, learners and partners feel supported in bringing their best to work in service to patients, residents and families. Kathy is also deeply committed to ensuring Island Health walks softly alongside Indigenous partners and that our services and facilities are welcoming, safe and honor diversity, equity and inclusion.
An experienced health-care executive with over 35 years of progressive leadership experience, Kathy started her career as a physiotherapist and stays grounded in her purpose to enable people and systems to achieve their highest level of functionality. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University and a Masters of Arts in Leadership (Health Specialization) from Royal Roads University. She is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and the ICD-D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Kathy serves on the Board of the Health Employers Association of British Columbia and the United Way of Greater Victoria. She is also Co-Chair of the Canada Health Leadership Network.
